About Build Your Own Business

Established in 2007, the Build Your Own Business Project (BYOB) aims to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship, leadership and community awareness in students. Once they submit a business plan, students are given advice and funding to catalyze their businesses.

BYOB held a business competition open to all CMU students. The first place winner was "Rebaterabbit.com", an online business reduces the cost of web hosting by returning 20% of hosting costs back to the customers. The second winner was iCMU, an iphone application that provides a central source of information for on-campus events.

BYOB also held an entrepreneurship week in which two of the most highly regarded faculty members gave lectures such as, "7 Steps on How to Come up with a Business Idea and How to sell that Idea" and "Entrepreneurship Dinner".
