What is Global Threads?

By Global Threads Admin

Global Threads is part of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) program. SIFE is establish in 47 countries in more than 1,500 universities. It is a program that encompasses a myriad of projects to fulfill the five main pillars of SIFE: market economics, sustainability, success skills, entrepreneurship and business ethics.

The Global Threads project of the Carnegie Mellon chapter of SIFE aims to raise fair trade awareness as well as enhance market access to international artisan goods. These artisans face barriers caused by geographic distance, transportation difficulties, and social inequalities. As part of the Global Threads project, we work with several well-known charity organizations to help create more sustainable businesses for these artisans.

Each year, we hold a Silent Auction, bringing in goods from these artisans and selling them to the public. This year’s International Silent Auction will be held on February 5, 2010 from 2pm-8:30pm in the University Center Connan Room of Carnegie Mellon University.
